Underdogs

I love an underdog story. They are always captivating and appeal to the average man. Lets face it nobody wants to see the same teams year after year play for the cup. Yes it was nice to see detroit and pittsburgh battle it out again this year. Its just always more interesting for me to see a team come out of nowhere and be a contender for the cup. I look back at when tampa bay won the cup. I dont think anybody saw that coming and it made for a good series. So this year i am looking for an underdog to maybe not win the cup but put up a fight . I think there are a couple of teams out there that could do it. Personally i see the Maple leafs suprising everybody and do really good and make it to the playoffs and maybe winning the whole thing. The Kings are another team to look out for. It's still early to be making any big predictions so we will see what the summer will bring and hopefully we will see some more teams make it to the playoffs that we usually dont see.

Decade long contracts

Ok i am starting to get frustrated with these decade long contracts being handed out. To me it is just an underhanded way for a gm to get players at a lower price than they would if they just signed a 4 or 5 year deal. Who really wants to stay with a team for 10 or more years. I can understand if it is a superstar thay you want to build the future of your team around. But these teams that are giving out decade long contracts to multiple players are ridicoulos . Personnaly i feel the hossa deal was for way too many years. I mean you havent seen how he will fit in to your team and you offer him 12 years. Its not like he is a young star player that can fit in with there other young stars . The rumors out of pittsburgh were that he didnt like having a captain that was younger than him. So how is he gonna feel with a young captain again. Hossa wants to be the big name on the bill and he is not going to be that in chicago.

Media coverage

The lack of media coverage of hockey in the united states especially in the southeast is a big pet peeve of mine. The only time you see hockey mentioned in these big sports news shows is when it is the stanley cup finals or something bad happens in the sport or around the sport. There is obvisouly enough fans out there to support 30 teams. So there should be enough fans to warrant at least some coverage on sports news. All i want is to see some highlights of games rather than having to get out my magnifying glass to see the scores at the bottom of the screen. With all the crap they show you would think that they would at least talk about what is going on in hockey. I dont think i heard anything about the draft on tv. The only way i can get my hockey fix is on the internet. It just doesnt make sense to me seeing how most hockey fans are also big fans of other sports.

Dany Heatley

I find it highly amusing just following the Heatley story. First he wants to be traded. Then he doesnt want to be traded unless it is to a good team. What is this guys problem. He is acting like he is the best player in the league. No team in there right mind would want to have him in there locker room. There are probably a ton of players out there right now that dont like there coach or the way team is playing. Just look at Pittsburgh there were a few people on that team including Crosby that did not like therrien or his coaching style. But you wouldn't see Crosby whining about it and he is a lot better player than heatley. I honestly would like to see him get moved down to the minors and give him a reallity check.
